Institute for Nonprofit Practice Expands Award-winning Programming to San Francisco Bay Area
INSTITUTE FOR NONPROFIT PRACTICE EXPANDS AWARD-WINNING PROGRAMMING TO SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA
Wellington Management Foundation and Tipping Point Community Fund Leadership Development for Social Impact Sector
January 6, 2022, San Francisco Bay Area — The Institute for Nonprofit Practice (INP), which works to transform the social impact sector to be more effective, equitable, diverse, and connected, announced the expansion of its award-winning programming to the San Francisco Bay Area today, alongside funding partners Wellington Management Foundation and Tipping Point Community.
Set to launch in the Bay Area in April 2022, INP is a capacity building organization that offers a suite of resources and programming — including equity-focused management and leadership development, community convenings, an expansive network of leaders, and robust alumni programming — all designed to build upon the knowledge, financial, and social capital of leaders who want to lead transformative work effectively. Expansion to the San Francisco Bay Area builds upon existing INP sites in the Northeast and Midwest.
INP’s launch in the Bay Area will include its Core Certificate Program which equips senior level leaders across the nonprofit and public sectors with the skills, knowledge, and networks they need to make strategic, mission-driven decisions that center diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to build high performing organizations, effecting lasting change in their communities and beyond. INP actively recruits diverse cohorts to strengthen participants’ learning experience and build a leadership pipeline that reflects the communities served. The majority of INP program participants are Black, Indigenous, people of color, and women.
“Our journey to serve the Bay Area is years in the making,” said INP President and CEO Yolanda Coentro. “Community leaders on the ground made it clear to us that there was demand and enthusiasm to bring INP’s resources and programs to changemakers and organizations of and from the Bay Area’s vibrant social impact sector, and with deep gratitude to Wellington Management Foundation and Tipping Point Community, this became possible. We are honored to reach more leaders in more communities with capacity building support, creating a coast-to-coast movement that is equipped to advance justice.”
The inaugural Bay Area Core Program cohort will be comprised of 20 senior level leaders (executives, directors, and managers) across the social impact sector — selected from candidates leading on a variety of issues including education, healthcare, poverty, environmental justice, and more. Those selected will join INP’s network of over 3,000 alumni across the country. Participants will share, learn, and leverage strategies to realize their leadership potential, building on strengths to elevate their organizational and community impact. Applications are currently open for the Bay Area and interested candidates can apply here.
Wellington Management Foundation served as a key donor to INP’s launch in the Bay Area, contributing $300,000 through their Catalyst Gift initiative which supports organizations showing meaningful and sustainable impact in their work with funding to move forward toward their strategic vision in a significant way. Funding partners also include Tipping Point Community, which gave the initial $100,000 to bring INP’s resources and programming to the West Coast. INP invites all who may be interested in learning more about supporting their growth in the Bay Area to contact Stacey Harris, Vice President of National Expansion, at sharris@nonprofitpractice.org.
Karen Pfefferle, Wellington Management Foundation Executive Director, said “Our Foundation believes in supporting leaders serving the communities where we live and work, from Boston to San Francisco. We hold a deep commitment to improving educational opportunities for youth and have seen INP prove its model by offering critical support to organizations doing this vital work in Boston. Wellington Management Foundation is proud to award a Catalyst Gift to expand INP’s dynamic programming to the Bay Area, ensuring support for a larger pipeline of racially diverse leaders who represent the communities they serve to advance youth education, and a stronger national network of changemakers with the collective power to meaningfully transform the practice of social impact.”
Capacity Building Director at Tipping Point Community Nick Arevalo said “Tipping Point is dedicated to creating more opportunities for individuals, especially people of color, to prosper in the Bay Area. The demand for INP’s transformative programming is profound and urgent as historically marginalized communities navigate through increasingly complex social challenges. At Tipping Point, we support a diverse set of nonprofit organizations led by proven leaders in the fight against poverty. Our investment in INP will now provide those leaders with an expanded network and additional capacity building support to help turn the tide on historic injustice and propel their impact toward a more equitable Bay Area.”
